In May 2011 a unique 20 tonne, 4 metre diameter, solid screw propeller part was made in the foundry for the Dudinka icebreaker. The propeller part will be shipped 3rd June to the Zvezdochka ship repair centre in Severodvinsk.
The contract for supplying this propeller, made from 06Kh15N4DML superalloy corrosion-resistant steel was signed in March this year.
Zvezdochka plant, which is well known in Russia and Europe, manufactures specialised propellers, for which OMZ-Foundry LLC supplies screw propeller castings. It has produced over 20 thousand propellers for ships of different design and purpose, including for the largest ships in the world.
Dudinka icebreaker was built in 1970, its deadweight is 1,219 tonnes and is owned by MMC Norilsk Nickel OJSC.
Production of such a large propeller screw casting demands particular attention and responsibility from the producer when making the model kit as well as when moulding and casting. The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) thoroughly examined all stages of the casting process.
OMZ-Foundry LLC managed the required tasks successfully and provided a high quality propeller on time. The RSSR inspector made no remarks.
